Description

2021 Yampa River Trip, June 12th – 15th

Glen Canyon Institute is excited to announce our 2021 member river trip will be on the last free-flowing river in the Colorado River Basin: the Yampa. We will be joined by author, photographer, conservationist, and naturalist, Stephen Trimble.

Mr. Trimble has written and edited a dozen books pertaining to the social and environmental landscape of the West. He is a historian as well as a naturalist, and this diverse background allows him to both be an amazing storyteller as well as advocate for the desert Southwest. His writing and photographs have helped a generation of Westerners better understand their relationship to the natural world.

As we float down the Yampa we will experience wild nature as well as have lively conversations about the Colorado Plateau and the future of water in the West. The river winds through ponderosa and juniper forests, and along sweeping 1,000-foot canyon walls. We will hike to beautiful geological points of interest, and see Native American rock art. For GCI supporters, the Yampa will be a uniquely special experience, as it the last undammed tributary river to the Colorado River. It is truly a wild river.

Mr. Trimble, along with GCI’s staff and board, will guide conversations about the history, ecology, and politics of the Colorado River. We will discuss the work of Glen Canyon Institute and conservation on the Colorado Plateau. As always, the top-notch guides at Holiday River Expeditions will offer rich interpretation of the river experience and provide amazing healthy and delicious meals.

When: June 12th – 15th, 2021

Where: We will meet in Vernal Utah at 8:00 am on the 12th at the Holiday River Expeditions HQ, and return to Vernal on the afternoon of the 15th
