A San Juan River Journey to Support
Glen Canyon Institute
July 26-30, 2008
Wild Rivers Expeditions is pleased to present
"Upstream of the Glen," a San Juan River
journey to benefit the Glen Canyon Institute and
its work to restore a healthy Colorado River
through Glen Canyon.
This five day, 58-mile expedition into the remote
lower canyon of the San Juan River--upstream
of its confluence with the Colorado River and
Glen Canyon--affords some of the Colorado
Plateau's most wonderful scenery and solitude.
As it cuts deeply into the Monument Upwarp,
the San Juan forms a spectacular canyon rich
with geologic history, delightful side canyons
and biological diversity.
As trip scholar, Dr. Rich Ingebretsen will
discuss the historical, contemporary and future
dimensions of Colorado River water
conservation as it relates to the Colorado River
system, its canyon environments and Glen
Canyon. We will also, of course, learn about
GCI's important work therein, for which we seek
to raise $8000 through donations stemming
from trip proceeds.
In addition to learning about these issues and
the canyon's geology and natural history, our
days will be spent floating by raft or inflatable
kayak, hiking side trails and canyons, and
generally enjoying the canyon country
splendor. Evenings camping along sandy
beaches will include selected readings,
discussions, humor and star gazing.
As with all Wild Rivers trips, this benefit
features caring, professional guides, delicious,
healthy meals and excellent interpretation of the
river's geologic and natural histories. This is a
great trip for a great cause... Please join us!
Cost: $1100 per person
